Illustration

I created an editorial illustration for an article about a goth student organization at Penn State. The article details how goths of color have historically been shut out of both the goth community and wider society, but these students have felt welcomed in this club. 

I wanted to show a Black goth girl feeling a sense of welcoming in the goth community. The closed doors represent opportunities and groups that are not available to her, while the shining light emanating from the open door, along with bats flying out and the hand of someone reaching to her, show how she has found a home among other goths.
